Please Note: It is the Patient's responsibility to phone the surgery for results.
The reception team can give out test results between 10.00am and 6.00pm.
The reception team will pass the doctors comment regarding your results to you if you phone in at this time. They can only give you a result once the doctor has viewed the result & commented on it.
We have a strict policy regarding confidentiality and data protection and our receptionists will only discuss test results with the person to whom they relate. We cannot discuss your results with anyone else unless you have given prior permission for the release of this data which we will record. From 24 March, the NHS Cervical Screening Programme will start sending results requiring referral to colposcopy through the NHS App.
Digital-first communications first appear as an NHS App notification. For results requiring referral to colposcopy, if the NHS App message isn’t read within 24 hours, a letter will be sent as a failsafe. For all other communications, if the NHS App message isn’t read within 72 hours, a letter will be sent as a failsafe. Some participants may also receive an SMS notification.
Each communication type has a variation in the fall-back process; this is outlined below:
• First, an NHS App message will be sent. This will appear as an NHS App notification.
• If someone has the NHS App downloaded but doesn’t have notifications switched on, they may also receive an SMS message to remind them to check the NHS App.
• If the NHS App message isn’t read within 24/72 hours of delivery (depending on communication type) or for those where a digital communication isn’t possible, a physical letter will be posted as a backup.
Important actions our nursing team will share with patients are:
- Sample takers will inform patients attending cervical screening that if they have the NHS App downloaded, their results will be delivered via the NHS App. If they don’t have NHS App, they will be sent a letter in the post.
- We encourage patients to download the NHS App and enable notifications: www.nhs.uk/nhs-app/
