You can register with the practice online
This new online service is called 'Register with a GP surgery' and makes it easy to register with the practice.
The registration process will take around 15 minutes to complete. You will need to complete the process in one session. You do not need your NHS number, but it could make registration easier. Find your NHS number online.
You do not need proof of address or immigration status, ID or an NHS number as this will be captured during your registration.
The service is designed and run by the NHS, so your personal information is safe. It cuts our administrative workload and makes it easier for you to register.
Paper registration forms are still available from our reception desk,if you need one, but completing your registration online cuts the administrative workload and ensures quicker registration.
Your completed registration will be reviewed by our Practice Administrator, should there be any issues with the registration, our Practice Administrator will make contact with prospective patients to discuss further. Once your registration has been approved you will receive text confirmation that your details are on our system.
Please note you will not automatically be registered on the day, therefore please do not expect to be seen immediately. We aim to register new patients with the practice within 7 to 10 working days. Within this timeframe you will be expected to contact your current Surgery for medication / appointment requests.
If you are unable for any reason to register using the online service, you can download a paper version and bring into our reception team with your relevant ID documents.
All new patients can book a 'new patient check' with our Nurse once you are registered. Please ensure you speak to our reception team if you need to see a Doctor to discuss more in depth issues as our receptionist will book the appointment to allow enough time for the Doctor to ascertain your clinical needs.

To check if you live in our practice boundary, please search for your postcode using the interactive map.
To access the map, click within the grey area and wait for the marked boundary to appear. Then enter your postcode in the search facility in the top right hand corner. If your postcode falls within the boundary a pin will appear on the map within the coloured boundary.

How do I register as a temporary resident with Helix Medical Centre?
Immediately Necessary Treatment
If you are not registered with us or a another local GP, but require "immediately necessary treatment” as you are ill whilst away from home, or if you are not registered with a doctor but need to see one urgently, you can receive emergency treatment with us for up to 14 days if we have appointment availability. The surgery reserves the right to refuse temporary registration where appointment capacity is limited.
Patients can also call NHS 111 if urgent treatment is required.
Our reception team will take your contact details / symptoms & triage these with our GP to ascertain appointment availability. Our Reception team will contact you back once our GP has provided an update.
Please note, if our GP agrees we have capacity to see you, you will need to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to your offered appointment time and complete a GMS3 temporary resident registration form, you will also need to supply the relevant Identification.
Temporary Residents / Immediately Necessary treatment will only be offered for acute medical conditions. Patients should return to their own GP for non-urgent referrals & chronic condition management.
Temporary Registration
If you need treatment for more than 14 days you will need to register with us as a temporary or permanent patient.

You can register as a temporary resident if you plan to live near the GP surgery for up to three months (unless our list is closed)
After three months you will need to apply to register with us as a permanent resident.
You can register temporarily with a GP while away from home for work, study or holiday. You'll still remain registered with your permanent GP.
Your temporary GP will pass details of any treatment you have to your GP, who will add the information to your medical records.
You cannot register as a temporary patient with our practice if you are already registered with a GP in the local area.
New Patients From Outside UK
This part of our website is intended to help our new patients from abroad to gain a basic understanding of how the National Health Services functions.

This website has information about why we are required by law to ask for proof of identity before treatment, & contact details for patients to ask questions & share any concerns with the overseas team.
Patients who register with a non UK mobile numbers will not be able to receive text reminders / confirmation of appointments etc. We would urge patients to therefore obtain a UK mobile & record this number on the registration form.
Travelling out of the country for less than 3 months
For patients who inform us they will be out of the country for less than 3 months, we will provide sufficient medicines for an existing condition (e.g. asthma, diabetes....) for the period while the patient is away, where it is safe to do so. Drugs that require frequent monitoring may not be prescribed where there are safety concerns.
Travelling out of the country for more than 3 months
Patients who inform us they will be leaving the country for more than 3 months will be prescribed sufficient medication to enable them to make alternative arrangements at their destination as per GP discretion.
They will be removed from out patient list. We will be pleased to re-register patients on their return to residence in the UK and can reassure patient that their electronic notes are kept on file for reference on your return.
Patients and relatives should not seek medication for themselves while they are abroad as this constitutes as NHS fraud.
NHS Policy
By law, the NHS ceases to have responsibility for the medical care of patients when they leave the UK. In addition GP's are not required by their terms of service to provide prescriptions for the treatment of a condition that is not present and may arise while the patient is abroad.
The NHS does accept responsibility for supplying ongoing medication for temporary periods abroad of up to 3 months. However, if a person is going to be abroad for more than 3 months, then they are only entitled (at NHS expense) to a sufficient supply of regular medication in order to get to their destination, where they should find an alternative supply of that medication.
Patients residing abroad for a period of more than 3 months will be removed from the registered patient list.
